Melina Aluwi leads planning and design for innovative learning and student life environments that support discovery, collaboration, and long-term academic success.
With a focus on higher education (including athletics, wellness, science, research, technology, and residential spaces), she brings deep knowledge of how students and educators engage with space and how thoughtful design can elevate that experience. Melina guides teams and clients through complex challenges with clarity, creativity, and purpose. Her work has been recognized for both innovation and sustainability, and she is known for creating environments that are not only high-performing but deeply attuned to the mission of each institution. Melina serves on the board of the San Diego Architecture Foundation, is a founding board member of the San Diego chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) previously served as President of the NewSchool of Architecture & Design’s Alumni Advisory Board and is a founding member of its mentorship program, underscoring her commitment to advancing the next generation of design leaders.
